Allotment Sites
Emmanuel site
It appears that this site is not going to be a viable option. We have been told by Dorset County Council that they would not wish to lease it to us. The East Dorset strategy document also proposed an upper school for Verwood which would use this site.
Blackmoor Road
The committee of VAHA have agreed with Verwood Town Council to put work on the Blackmoor Road site on hold for the time being. Responses to a questionnaire showed that members were not very keen on the site, with the main issues being the pylons and the busy road. The site was also not big enough for a large proportion of the members to be given even half size plots. Read More
Blackmoor Road (left for information)
VTC had started public consultation with the residents that back onto a site on Blackmoor road. However VAHA and VTC have now agreed to out work on this site on hold.
The site has some benefits as well as some disadvantages, however it is important to consider that any site is better then no site at all and the VAHA committee extend their thanks to VTC for locating this site.
It is long and thin, offering space for about 15 to 20 3/4 length plots, and is for the most part directly under HV electrical pylons. It runs from the traffic light junction of Blackmoor Road and Ringwood Road, down Blackmoor Road to just beyond the second pylon. There is ample roadside parking. The site is generally level with one the main boundaries to the road and another backing onto homes.
The site has an abundance of established trees on the site that add to the amenity and provides a good screen for the homes backing onto the site. There is public access across the site running close to the first pylon, which would need to be maintained. The trodden (dog walkers) path running from the established path down the full length of the site is not a public right of way.
